WHAT WE DO

At the heart of each Global Mining Simulator is a simulated cab, a highly realistic replica of the actual equipment, with fully functional simulated instruments and controls. The replicated cab is mounted on a motion platform capable of imparting up to six degrees of freedom and is surrounded by a 270° or full 360° panoramic, high-resolution projection display system with surround sound audio. Control of all aspects of training and evaluation is exercised in real time from a feature rich instructor station and displayed on two High Definition widescreen displays. The entire simulator system is housed in a well-appointed, self-contained ISO standard container, which also facilitates ease of transport. GMSA simulators offer a controlled environment which is highly conducive to the professional training, re-training and evaluation of student operators.

tHE GMSA mining simulator provides training and facilitates objective that evaluate in the following areas:

• Training and evaluating novices in the proficient operation of heavy equipment

• Providing a new-recruit screening system

• Providing effective refresher training for experienced operators

• Instilling the theory and practical aspects of economical mining

• Providing training in emergency situations not possible on the real mining equipment

• Entrenching safety procedures

Operators are logged onto the GMSA mining simulator. As the operator controls the heavy equipment, all aspects of operation are electronically monitored and digitally presented, including adherence to operating and safety procedures and students economic performance. Exercise results are stored in a comprehensive database for viewing and printing by the instructor. The entire exercise is recorded for after-action-review.

The GMSA mining simulator immerse the operator in a highly realistic operating environment within a 3D virtual training world. Instruments and controls are either sourced from original equipment manufacturers or accurately replicated to function as they do in the real mining equipment. The operation of sub-systems such as engines, braking systems, hydraulics and drilling heads is mathematically modeled to original manufacturer specifications so as to provide accurate, realistic feedback to the student. Other simulated equipment and vehicles interoperate with the student to test and enhance his skill levels. Accurate 3D surround sound reproduction and composite visual effects such as reflections, dust, rain and shadows complete the picture to ensure a high fidelity training experience.

Our Haul Truck Simulation course runs for 4 days from Monday to Thursday and gives you the competitive edge against other applicants with no industry experience. Once you have gained the basic pre-employment skills on the simulator, Global Mining Simulator Academy will issue you with a Statement of Attendance. Theoretical components of learning are classroom based however the key training tool is the haul truck simulator focusing on the practical aspects of skill.

The 4 Day Training course will provide you with the basic skills, knowledge and information to safely operate a Haul Truck.

The simulator provides the opportunity for participants to be exposed to:

• Drive and operate a Haul Truck simulator safely to Australian Standard

• Load and dump

• Reverse under a loader/excavator/shovel

• Reverse on side to tip head

• Work safely in a productive environment

• Experience safety hazards, fires, and night driving

Course Content includes:

• Identify the different types and sizes of CAT haul trucks

• Load, Haul & Dump

• Identify any and all safety factors necessary to operate in a mining environment

• List factors, which add to and promote production efficiency

• Understanding and knowledge of how to perform walk-around pre-inspections prior to starting the haul truck

• Perform checks of the haul truck after start-up

• Operating Techniques

Presently we only run courses in QLD; however the course is open to any participant that is interested.

Company training up truck drivers

ONE hundred and fifty kilometres from the nearest mine site, potential operators are learning the nuts and bolts of driving giant CAT haul trucks.

Familiarising themselves with the machine, feeling what its like to carry a 200-tonne load of dirt or coal, hearing the rumble of the engine and sound of the horns, interacting with other vehicles and experiencing potentially deadly situations all this is happening not on a mine site in a $4million truck, but here in Mackay.

Mackay company Global Mining Simulator Academy (GMSA) is leading the way with advanced training for inexperienced drivers, looking to get into the mining industry with the Immersive Technologies Advanced Equipment Simulator PRO 2.

The simulator is a prime example of how far technology has advanced in such a short time and the part its playing in mining and training. For someone who has never been on a mine site, or a seasoned operator wanting to brush up on skills, it offers a danger-free, realistic experience of a dump truck.

Simulators not only have the potential to save mining companies time and money with training, in turn putting more drivers in the trucks where they are needed, but they train potential employees about serious incidents which they may only experience once in a career, if ever.

Everyone knows that the skills shortage is looming and the crunch time comes this year. They (mines) have to have the numbers, said Phillip McBride, business development regional manager for Immersive Technologies. The reality is 12,000 people cannot be produced through the existing recruitment system.

This program used technology to provide unskilled workers with the experience they needed to work in the mining industry, Mr McBride said.

With this set-up, it gives the gateway for the regular community to be able to learn what goes into being an operator of one of these trucks.

The usual four-day course at the centre takes attendees through intense practical theory components, including 50:1 scale models of mining vehicles on a purpose-built sandpit, designed to give people an insight into what is going on around them on site. For more information call GMSA on 49525244.
